The worst typo ever

SHARE
The BBC reported on its website that Margaret Thatcher  'died of a strike'.

"Is this the worst typo ever?"

asked one internet headline.

No, it is not.  The worst typo ever was in a despatch from the British Ambassador in Athens to the Foreign Secretary, during the Greco-Turkish War in the early 1920s.

'Order has broken down to such an extent that even the monks of Mount Athos are violating their vows',

he dictated, but the typist typed 'cows'  instead of 'vows'. Lord Curzon wrote in the margin:

'Better send a papal bull'.
